A pregnant woman was critically wounded and six others lightly or moderately injured in a drive-by shooting attack near the settlement of Ofra, which took place on the last night of Hanukkah.
Doctors delivered the baby of Shira and Amichai Ish-Ran prematurely due to the attack. He died three days later.
The parents named their baby Amiad Israel (My people are here forever).
Amiad would have been the couple’s first child.
PLEASE PLANT TREES OF LIFE IN HONOR OF AMIAD>>
At Amiad Israel's funeral, his grandfather, Haim Silberstein, recalled his joy at being informed by Shira and Amichai about the boy that would be his first grandchild.
"The seventh month and the excitement is increasing," Silberstein said. "Lighting the eighth candle of Hanukkah happily, traveling home and innocently waiting at the Ofra station. And then a bunch of bullets cut off the happiness, the expectation and the dreams.
"A cruel enemy aimed his weapon at a pregnant woman because he wanted to uproot us from our land," he continued.
But the prophet Amos teaches:
"And I will plant them on their soil, Nevermore to be uprooted"
Israel365 is joining with the community of Ofra, the site of the terror attack that killed Amiad Israel, to plant a new forest - a symbol of life and prophecy fulfilled - in the community. The planting will take place on January 18.
A GIFT OF ANY SIZE WILL MAKE YOUR PRESENCE FELT ON JANUARY 18, WHEN A GROUP OF LOVERS OF ISRAEL TAKE TO THE LAND AND PLANT THE FIRST TREES.
$120 symbolizes the Jewish blessing that one should live to be 120 years old.
In the words of Amichai Ish-Ran, "They can shoot us, they can run us over with their vehicles, they can murder our children, but they will never succeed at breaking us."
