Having survived the horrors of one of the darkest times in human history, it is tragic that today, Judith, like so many others, is forced to live out her final years in poverty and loneliness.

Forcibly removed from her home, shoved into a tightly-packed cattle car, denied food and water, and stripped of her belongings along with thousands of other Hungarian Jews, Judith was interned at Ravensbruck Concentration camp. Deprived of nutrition, tattooed with numbers, after enduring months working in the cold, dressed in rags, Judith was selected for horrific “medical” experimentation.

Judith bore witness to the brutality and systematic murders of her parents, siblings and other family members in Hitler’s attempt to exterminate God’s Chosen People.

Despite the conditions, Judith maintained hope. In this hell, Judith and her fellow prisoners shared food and clothing when possible and tried to create as many distractions as they could, including hidden group prayers and secret education programs to remind themselves of their humanity.

Having survived the horrors of one of the darkest times in human history, it is tragic that today, Judith is forced to live out her final years in poverty and loneliness.

Today around 200,000 Holocaust Survivors reside in Israel, and an estimated 50,000, including Judith, live below the poverty line. These Survivors - who have suffered more intensely in their lives than we can even imagine - find themselves once again isolated and feeling like prisoners in their own home, enduring the rumblings of empty bellies.

Left alone, aging in poverty, unable to afford bare necessities - let alone medication or therapeutic treatments - we must ease their pain and bring comfort to their final years.

For the last decade, Judith, along with tens of thousands of other disadvantaged Holocaust Survivors in Israel, have turned to Meir Panim as their only source of hope for a brighter future.

Now is the time that we are asking YOU to help Meir Panim make a real impact and enable Holocaust Survivors to live in dignity in the time they have left.

Your donation will provide effective and much-needed dignified care to Judith and so many other people who have experienced so much suffering in their lives.

Together we can bring them the comfort they deserve. With your partnership, we can provide them with warm meals, stocked pantries, therapeutic companionship, socialization and enriching programs - significant needs that are currently going unmet.

Meir Panim’s Food and Service Programs - Help Us Bring Hope

Meir Panim’s Holocaust Survivor Day Center in the southern Israel city of Dimona supports the needs of area Survivors as they age, providing not only nourishment for their bodies but also their souls in the form of emotional support and community connection. Through this program, Meir Panim ensures that these Survivors, who have been through so much in their lives, can enjoy each day and age with care and dignity.

Meir Panim’s Meals-on-Wheels program, available throughout the country, brings a warm, nutritious meal to our clients’ doorstep. Meals-on-Wheels is much more than lunch - for many, this daily interaction with a volunteer is their only connection to the outside world. Our volunteers understand the responsibility they are given and take the time to not only deliver the food but also check in on the clients’ welfare. For those in a dire situation, sometimes these volunteers are the only people who can report that a person is in desperate need of additional assistance.

Meir Panim’s Restaurant-Style Soup Kitchens are a dignified alternative to traditional soup kitchens, providing 490,000 quality meals annually in a comfortable dining setting to impoverished Israelis. Designed to have the look and feel of a regular restaurant, they provide a warm and relaxed atmosphere, preserving dignity and developing camaraderie and a sense of community. Our diners come from diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds, and range from families with young children to elderly including Holocaust Survivors. Meals are served by volunteers who provide more than just a nutritious meal – they offer a warm smile, a sympathetic ear, and a helping hand. For many of our patrons, Meir Panim provides them with their only hot meal of the day.
