Caryn Hanrahan – Pave the Road to The Land Where Women Heal #LWWH
When facing trauma, survivors of sexual abuse need a place to turn… that’s where you come in

You are reading this because you care about women who have been sexually assaulted.

You have heard about the #me_too movement, when brave woman from all over the world shared their personal experiences with sexual harassment and even rape. You might have even participated in it yourself. This powerful sisterhood of women has exposed yet again the terrible epidemic that is sexual violence, and the way it affects people from all backgrounds.

We at Ohela want to take another step and ask: everyone has her own #me_too story, but then #what_now?

What do you do after the rape? After the violence? How do you heal? Where do you go?

Caryn Hanrahan I was lucky enough to meet Marva on her first day in Atlanta at JF&CS through its Shalom Bayit program. Through narration and poetry, she shared her experience of healing from the trauma of sexual assault. Her story and presentation moved almost everyone present to tears, and left me pondering next steps. In the wake of the #MeToo campaign, this seems like the perfect time for this project to grow. I hope you will take time to learn more about this initiative and give generously.

Your donation to Ohela will contribute toward a new journey, and at the end of the road we see AMEN: a Land Where Women Heal #LWWH. A village in Israel where women come to rehabilitate. To survive. To heal. A place that can contain the symptoms of PTSD and give survivors the tools to live with them. A place led by principles of a feminist, naturalistic and holistic approach.

Many women live with PTSD and complex trauma caused by their own #me_too story, their own disastrous encounter with sexual violence. They suffer from flashbacks, nightmares, dissociative episodes and the infliction of self-harm. Existing Israeli facilities are not equipped to deal with this specific condition, as common as it is, and tend to treat the symptoms instead of addressing the core issue: the severe mental injury caused by rape.

Women dealing with the aftermath of rape are alone, fighting for their lives. The great global sisterhood of #me_too has exposed their struggle, but now we must help ease their pain. We ask: #what_now? And we answer: now we create a place where women can go to heal. But we need your help.

Because of you, we will create a village where women come to heal. A place that has a supportive community of wise women, inspired by ancient times when women would retire to their Red Tent and celebrate their womanhood. A place where a girl can come and celebrate her first period, a bride can celebrate her new chapter in life, a new mother can celebrate the miracle that she is.

And above all, your gift helps build a place where women can rebirth themselves, get through hell and survive it, recreate a positive and healthy relationship with their bodies. A village of wise women.

You can help build a community that supports survivors of sexual violence, a community that believes in a survivor’s ability to heal herself. We are asking you to open your heart, reach a helping hand, join our community.

You can provide women with the right care and treatment, tailored specifically to the symptoms and characteristics of complex PTSD. You can give them a them a bed, a support group, a staff member to help them get through the night.

You can change the way complex PTSD caused by sexual violence is treated in Israel and worldwide. Make no mistake: Your donation will save lives. Please donate today.

Your donation is tax exempt in both USA and Canada.
